Ukraine expects NATO to provide Membership Action Plan, set date of accession
"The concrete step that we expect from the NATO leadership and member countries, I felt this and heard during the last North Atlantic Council meeting with the participation of the leadership of all member countries, is providing the Membership Action Plan and determining a specific date when Ukraine will be able to become already the 31st NATO member state, because NATO is expanding constantly,” President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during a joint press conference with the presidents of Lithuania and Poland in Lublin, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
At the same time, Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine, for its part, must meet the criteria necessary for joining NATO.
"I mean not only security criteria but also the rule of law, democracy, free and fair elections, consolidation of the democratic traditions, which Ukraine has demonstrated," the President of Ukraine said.
As reported, on February 20, the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the strategic course of the state for gaining full membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization)” came into force.
