OSCE coordinator to ask Red Cross representatives to visit Pavlo Hryb

The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Coordinator, Ambassador Toni Frisch during a meeting with Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denisova promised to ask the ICRC’s representatives to visit Ukrainian political prisoner Pavlo Hryb and help provide him with medical care.

"Toni Frisch promised me to contact the representatives of the ICRC so that they visit the Kremlin's prisoner and help with the provision of medical care and further treatment," Denisova wrote on Facebook.

She said that during the meeting with the coordinator she expressed concern and requested to assist the provision of immediate medical care to political prisoner Pavlo Hryb because of his critical heath condition.

The sides also discussed the work of the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) to ensure the release and exchange of hostages and persons illegally detained in the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions beyond the control of Ukraine within the framework of the Minsk agreements.

“The exchange of hostages remains one of the main issues. Therefore, Mr. Frisch and I noted that we are ready for the exchange in any format and are trying to do this,” Denisova said.

The parties also considered the issue of transfer of Ukrainian citizens who were detained before the conflict. Denisova said that the next transfer will take place in early February.

In addition, Denisova informed Frisch about the situation on the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

The human rights commissioner noted that Toni Frisch supported the Ukrainian position regarding the treatment of our sailors as prisoners of war in accordance with the norms of the 1949 Geneva Convention.
