Petro Poroshenko, Wolfgang Sobotka discuss Nord Stream 2 and release of Ukrainian sailors
The press service of the head of state reported this following his meeting with Sobotka, who is currently in Ukraine on an official visit.
"The Head of State noted the active efforts of Austria to help improve the humanitarian situation in the territories freed from Russian occupation forces. Special attention was paid to the issue of the release of Ukrainian hostages and servicemen of the Ukrainian Navy, who are illegally kept in Russian prisons. The risks for energy security of the European Union, created by the implementation of the Nord Stream 2, were also discussed,” reads the report.
During the meeting, the parties also noted the intensity of the political dialogue at the highest level and noted mutual interest in deepening inter-parliamentary ties.
President Poroshenko welcomed the principled position of Austria during the presidency of the EU Council on the continuation of sanctions against Russia in response to Moscow's blockade of the peace process in Donbas, the ongoing occupation of the Crimean peninsula and the act of armed aggression in the Black Sea and the Kerch Strait.
