The EU Foreign Affairs Council has reiterated the EU's priority attention to supporting Ukraine in rebuffing Russian aggression, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"I welcome the results of today's meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, which reaffirmed the EU's priority attention to supporting Ukraine in rebuffing Russian aggression and restoring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state," Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page on Monday, November 19.

He added that the EU Foreign Affairs Council discussed Russia's aggressive actions in the Azov Sea for the first time.

"I am grateful for the approval of the initiative to strengthen EU assistance to the social and economic development of the Ukrainian part of the Azov Sea," Poroshenko wrote.

The president stressed that he highly appreciates the council's firm position in condemning illegal elections in the territories of the Donbas temporarily occupied by Russia and readiness to impose additional sanctions for the cynical violation of the Minsk agreements and sovereignty of Ukraine.

On Monday, November 19, the EU Foreign Affairs Council, chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, planned to consider a wide range of issues of international politics, including the situation in Ukraine due to Russia's holding illegal elections in the occupied territories of the Donbas, as well as in view of Russia's provocative actions in the Sea of Azov and the militarization of the region.
