Poroshenko, Merkel discuss threats of escalation in Sea of Azov

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the threats of escalation of the situation in the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait.

"We also discussed the threats of escalation in the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait," Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with Merkel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The President stressed that "all the possible efforts have been made to ensure that the Russian side strictly adheres to the international law."

In addition, Poroshenko expressed deep gratitude for Merkel's personal assistance in treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers in the hospitals of the German Bundeswehr.

As reported, Deputy Minister of Ukraine for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Heorhii Tuka,said that Ukraine collected the evidence base and documented every case of Russia's illegal halt of vessels in the Sea of Azov to use the testimony in the international courts.

In late July, Russia increased its activity in the Sea of Azov and began to halt the foreign vessels passing the Kerch Strait.
