President Poroshenko thanks U.S. Congress for supporting Ukraine
"Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the important role of the U.S. Congress in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including consistent support for granting defensive weapons to Ukraine and stepping up the sanctions pressure on Russia," the press service of the Head of State reports.
As noted, the further steps were coordinated to strengthen international efforts for the de-occupation of Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas. The President of Ukraine drew attention to the illegal activity of the Russian Federation in the water area of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on the threats to Europe’s energy security posed by the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.
Ukraine's progress in implementing the reform programs and developing cooperation with the IMF was also discussed.
The President of Ukraine expressed his hope that the members of the U.S. Congress would support Ukraine's efforts aimed at the official recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people in the United States.
