Russia preparing for new powerful campaign of interference into Ukrainian elections – Poroshenko

He stated this at the 13th meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine on August 28, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

“The Kremlin skillfully covers its subversive activities with democratic values and principles. We have to look for the ways to cooperate with other states and coordinate efforts to develop a reliable mechanism for preventing third-party interference in the electoral process and ensuring the free expression of will of our citizens," the President said and added that special attention should be paid to the countries that already have relevant developments.

As an example, the President noted the experience of Paris and Berlin.

“I ask you to work out the possibility of involving German, French and American experts in the development of a similar legislative initiative in Ukraine,” he said.

Poroshenko noted that “the last 4.5 years were not easy, but now one of the most critical periods is coming - the democratic world is entering a new electoral cycle.”

According to him, leading IT companies have already recorded the creation of thousands, tens of thousands of fake accounts with Russian roots.

"Russia is preparing for a new powerful manipulative campaign - fake news, undermining stability. I have no doubt that Moscow will not lose any opportunity to discredit our achievements to sow disillusionment among citizens in the future and fatigue of European choice. We must be ready to respond. Although this is not a simple task. We must learn the experience in each country of residence - legal, executive experience, steps of efficiency”.

According to Petro Poroshenko, Russia’s “tentacles are very firmly penetrated into social networks, they hold separate media, they are present in cyberspace”.
