Italy’s Foreign Ministry reaffirms support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

He stated this during a meeting with Acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal on Thursday, the ministry’s press service reports.

"Italy confirms support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Italy’s Chairmanship of the OSCE is ready to further promote the implementation of the Minsk agreements," said Guglielmo Picchi.

According to him, Italy’s Chairmanship of the OSCE pays special attention to the situation in Donbas, including through the activities of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.

Zerkal, in turn, thanked Italy for its unchanged position on the support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, which "was once again clearly confirmed by Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs Enzo Moavero Milanesi in the Italian Parliament on July 25, 2018".

During the meeting, the parties also noted the importance of the human dimension in the activities of the Special Monitoring Mission.

In addition, Zerkal and Picchi positively assessed the state of bilateral relations, especially stressed the growth of the Ukrainian-Italian trade turnover, including through the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

Zerkal also noted the need for further attracting Italian companies into Ukraine, in particular in the energy sector, as well as deepening cultural cooperation as means of rapprochement between the peoples of the both countries.
