Poroshenko: Statement by US Secretary on Crimea will deprive Kremlin of its imperial illusions
In a post on his Facebook page, President Poroshenko wrote: “I welcome Washington's historic statement on the non-recognition of an attempt by the Russian aggressor to annex the Ukrainian Crimea”.
Poroshenko stressed that the mentioned statement by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “will finally deprive Kremlin of its imperial illusions”.
He also thanked the Presidential Administration of Donald Trump for the uncompromising position to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
“Crimea belongs to Ukraine and it is not negotiable - it wasn't, isn't and can't be compromised. Regardless of the passage of time, armed occupation and illegal annexation of a part of a sovereign state will only end in one way - with the liberation of the occupied territory, restoration of territorial integrity and compensation of all damage caused by the aggressor,” he wrote.
Poroshenko also called on all sincere friends and partners of Ukraine to support "Crimea Declaration" and added that the joint strategy is “to move from the policy of non-recognition to the de-occupation policy.”
As reported, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on July 25 issued a statement, titled "Crimea Declaration," in which he said the U.S. does not recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.
