Ambassador assures of Italy’s consistent support for territorial integrity of Ukraine

Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Davide La Cecilia has assured the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in Italy’s firm and consistent support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

He said this during a meeting with Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration Olena Zerkal, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reports.

The diplomat was invited to this meeting to explain the inadmissible statements of Interior Minister of Italy Matteo Salvini regarding Ukraine.

"Italy's support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is firm and consistent. Italy officially declares this at all the international venues, including the recent events held within the framework of the EU, NATO and G7," the ambassador said.

As the Foreign Ministry stressed, Ukraine hopes that Italy will continue to contribute to the unified EU’s support for Ukraine in fighting Russian aggression.

As a reminder, Interior Minister of Italy and leader of center right Lega party Matteo Salvini said in an interview with The Washington Post that Russia had lawfully annexed the Ukrainian Crimea and called the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine "fake."
