Parliament in autumn intends to approve law on creation of intelligence committee
Speaker Andriy Parubiy said this at a final press conference dedicated to the official closure of the eighth parliament’s session on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The Law on the national security is a framework - it foresees laws on the Security Service, the liberalization of trade in the military industry, the law on intelligence, and the creation of an intelligence committee at Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This is our plan for autumn. But adoption of the law on the national security is a basis for reforming the entire security sector," Parubiy stressed.
As reported, the law on the national security of Ukraine came into effect on Sunday, July 8.
The law regulates the fundamentals and principles of state policy in the field of national security and defense, taking into account the acquisition of membership in the EU and NATO, the mechanisms for improving democratic civilian control over the security and defense sector, the system of management of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular, the division of tasks, functions, powers, responsibilities and accountability of the management of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces etc.
