Poroshenko calls on Serbia to recognize Holodomor as genocide

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on the Serbian parliament to recognize the Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Poroshenko said this at a meeting with President of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojkovic on July 3, the press service of the head of state reported.

The president of Ukraine and the president of the National Assembly of Serbia also discussed interparliamentary cooperation, in particular as part of parliamentary assemblies.

The parties, in particular, agreed with the importance of strict adherence to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries and prevention of cases of violations of this principle.

In this regard, Poroshenko noted that the visit by some Serbian deputies to Russian-occupied Russia was unacceptable.

Poroshenko and Gojkovic also discussed the importance of revitalizing the interparliamentary dialogue.

Poroshenko also invited the Serbian parliament speaker to visit Ukraine.

As reported, on July 3, a Ukrainian delegation headed by President Petro Poroshenko was on an official visit to Serbia at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
