US commends Ukraine for adopting law on anti-corruption court

This is said in the press statement of the U.S. Department of State, released on Wednesday, June 20, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The United States commends Ukraine for adopting a law to establish an independent anti-corruption court. We were pleased to see this important piece of legislation passed with broad support in the Verkhovna Rada. With this move, Ukraine took an important step towards achieving the European future its people demanded during the Revolution of Dignity," the statement reads.

In addition, the American side supported the relevant statement made by IMF managing Director Christine Lagarde. " She [Lagarde] and President Poroshenko have agreed the Rada should quickly amend the law so the proposed court will be able to hear all cases under its jurisdiction, including existing corruption cases, and pass supplementary legislation to formally establish the court," the U.S. Department of State underscores.

As noted, these steps will ensure the court is able to “help roll back the corruption that threatens Ukraine’s national security, prosperity, and democratic development.”

As reported, the Ukrainian parliament passed the law on the High Anti-Corruption Court on June 7. It entered into force on June 14.
