Lithuanian foreign minister plans to visit Luhansk region to discuss ways of cooperation

Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, who is on a working visit to Ukraine, plans to visit Luhansk region to examine the current security situation.

This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.

"The purpose of the visit of the Lithuanian foreign minister is to discuss further development of the Ukrainian-Lithuanian strategic partnership and interaction at the international level in the issue of counteracting Russian aggression ... Within the framework of the visit, Minister Linkevičius intends to visit Luhansk region and discuss ways to deepen cooperation, primarily in terms of Lithuania's support for small and medium-sized businesses. The Lithuanian minister will also study the current security situation in the region due to the ongoing military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine," the report reads.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informs that on Thursday, June 21, the negotiations will be held between the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Lithuania on topical issues of bilateral cooperation, restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, provision of advisory assistance to our country in the implementation of reforms, as well as joint initiatives to promote Ukraine on the way of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

As reported, in the evening of June 20, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Linkevičius.

As part of the discussion on Donbas, the parties considered the modalities for the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission there, as well as the possibility of getting assistance from Lithuania and other EU member states to support the citizens of Donbas, who were victims of Russian aggression.
