Head of Donetsk Military and Civil Regional Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky and U.S. Senator Rob Portman have discussed the security policy and humanitarian situation in Donetsk region.

The region’s governor wrote this on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

“I met with the US delegation led by U.S. Senator Rob Portman and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. We discussed mainly the security issues in the region, as well as the humanitarian situation," Zhebrivsky wrote.

He noted that the initiative of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to introduce peacekeeping troops (the so-called "blue helmets") in the occupied territories could be implemented only with the support of the international community, including the United States - "we together should make Putin fulfill international obligations and force him to peace."

In his turn, the U.S. senator noted that Ukraine has all “chances to be successful, there are traditions, industry, huge human potential”.
