The Verkhovna Rada on Thursday gave its consent to the prosecution, detention and arrest of Opposition Bloc MP Yevhen Bakulin, who is suspected of appropriating and laundering very large sums of funds.

People's deputies supported all three motions on Bakulin's prosecution, detention and arrest, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On February 16, 2018, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko signed a motion to parliament on granting consent to the prosecution, detention and selection of a preventive measure for Opposition Bloc MP Yevhen Bakulin since a pre-trial investigation agency obtained sufficient evidence regarding his involvement in committing, as part of a criminal organization led by Viktor Yanukovych, criminal offenses stipulated in Part 1, Article 255; Part 4, Article 28, Part 5, Article 191; Part 4, Article 28, Part 5, Article 191; Part 2, Article 15, Part 4, Article 28, Part 5, Article 191; Part 4, Article 28, Part 1, Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unlawful seizure by an official through abuse of office of someone else's property in particularly large amounts - the funds of Chornomornaftogaz worth over UAH 3.2 billion during the purchase of the Petro Hodovanets and Ukraina jack-up rigs).

In addition, he is suspected of illegally taking possession of someone else's property in particularly large amounts - the funds owned by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine worth almost UAH 450 million during the purchase of petroleum products from Gaz Ukraine 2020.

Bakulin headed Naftogaz of Ukraine from March 2010 to March 2014. In March 2014, he was arrested on suspicion of stealing money in particularly large amounts. Subsequently, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court released Bakulin on UAH 10 million bail.
