The adoption of the law on Donbas reintegration is evidence of Ukraine's unity and a clear intention to restore control over the whole territory of the country, MEP Michal Boni has said.

He said this in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform's correspondent in Brussels while speaking about the law on the peculiarities of state policy on ensuring Ukraine's state sovereignty over temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"The decision of the Verkhovna Rada to support the law… shows the country's unity and clear intention to save their territories from illegal invasion, regain the control over territories of their own country," the Polish politician said.

According to Boni, the law also clearly underlines the fact, which has been silenced for a long period of time - Russia conducts aggressive policy towards Ukraine and is responsible for the occupation of Ukraine's territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The MEP praised the provisions in the law on the recognition by Kyiv of only two types of documents issued in temporarily uncontrolled territories - birth and death certificates, which is very important to Ukrainian citizens in occupied territories.

"I completely support the decision of the Verkhovna Rada and consider this as a necessary act aimed to unite Ukraine and support the implementation of Minsk agreements," Boni said.

On January 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the peculiarities of state policy on ensuring Ukraine's state sovereignty over temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A total of 280 MPs voted for a respective bill.
