Ukraine hopes that an efficient cooperation with Portugal within the international organizations, including the UN, will facilitate the introduction of a peacekeeping mission in the temporarily occupied territories of our state.

President Petro Poroshenko said this during a joint press conference with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Lisbon following the negotiations, the press service of the Head of State reported.

In particular, Poroshenko emphasized the importance of cooperation between Ukraine and Portugal within the international organizations, including the UN, and thanked the President of Portugal for “a very professional, wise, balanced and responsible position” of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the former prime minister of Portugal.

”I would like to express hope that our efficient cooperation will help approve the decision on the introduction of a classic peacekeeping mission of the UN Security Council, the mandate of which will be extended to the entire occupied territory,” Poroshenko said.

“We will have efficient means to bring peace to Ukraine and peacekeepers will have access to the uncontrolled part of the Ukraine-Russia border,” the President stressed, adding that peace had been among the key topics of today’s negotiations.

The President of Ukraine thanked for deepening cooperation between the countries in the field of defense and security, military-technical cooperation and expressed hope for their development.
