The European Union has extended the mandate of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) to reform the civil security sector and approved a budget worth EUR 32 million for the next year and a half.

Ukrinform learnt this from the press service of the Council of the European Union.

"On November 20, the Council extended the mandate of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Ukraine until May 31, 2019 and approved a budget of €32 million for the next 18 months," the statement reads.

The European Union Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform Ukraine, EUAM Ukraine, has been deployed since December 2014, with a mandate to support Ukrainian agencies in the reform of the civilian security sector. The mission is one of the central elements of the EU's enhanced support to the Ukrainian authorities in recent years.

EUAM aims to strengthen and support reform in state agencies such as the police, other law enforcement agencies and the judicial sector, particularly the prosecutor's office.
