Nominee for U.S. ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman is set to resolve the crisis in Ukraine with deep respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Huntsman stated this at the hearings in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I am under no illusion that serving as the U.S. ambassador to the Russian Federation will be easy or simple. I will make every effort to find political solutions to the conflict in Syria and the crisis in Ukraine with deep respect for the sovereignty of the country and restoration of its territorial integrity," Huntsman said.

Huntsman noted in his opening remarks that “there is no question that the Russian government interfered in the U.S. election last year and Moscow continues to meddle in the democratic processes of our friends and allies.”

According to him, it is necessary to maintain the US sanctions against Russia.
