The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to the press service of the head of state, the sides discussed new strategic goals on the road to European integration of Ukraine.
"The president called on the high representative to support the initiatives of the Ukrainian side, which will facilitate further rapprochement with the EU and in-depth reforms in Ukraine," reads the statement.
Poroshenko briefed Mogherini on the development of the situation in the Donbas and the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements, as well as Ukraine's initiative on the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the occupied Donbas, including in the uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian state border.
The head of state also noted that Ukraine hoped for more effective EU support in the release of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia and Crimea.
Poroshenko and Mogherini also agreed on their positions ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Brussels on November 24.
