Poroshenko hails Merkel-Macron statement on back-to-school ceasefire

"I welcome a statement by the leaders of Germany and France with a strong call, first and foremost, to the president of Russia, as an aggressor country, and the conflicting sides to ensure full compliance with the ceasefire regime due to the beginning of the school year," reads the statement.

Poroshenko said that he had instructed the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to continue observing the ceasefire. According to him, this subject, among other things, was discussed at a meeting with the military leadership in Kramatorsk on Monday.

"The ceasefire regime on the occasion of the beginning of the school year should become comprehensive and create favorable conditions for promoting the peace process to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," he added.
