Law on language quotas on radio and TV published in Holos Ukrainy

The parliamentary newspaper Holos Ukrainy on June 13 published the Law of Ukraine on amending certain laws of Ukraine on the language of audiovisual (electronic) media, which obliges the national television channels to broadcast at least 75% of content in the Ukrainian language.

The law comes into effect four months following the date of its publication

May 23, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law on amending certain laws of Ukraine on the language of audiovisual (electronic) media.

According to the law, the weekly share of TV programs and films in the state language must be at least 75% in each time span between 07:00 and 18:00 and between 18:00 and 22:00 for national and regional television and radio broadcasting organizations and at least 60% for local broadcasting companies.

President Petro Poroshenko signed the law on June 6.
