President Poroshenko: MPs in Verkhovna Rada to have only Ukrainian passports

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says he will do everything in his power to ensure that MPs in the Ukrainian Parliament have only the Ukrainian citizenship.

President Poroshenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainian TV Channels on Wednesday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"I will do everything in my power so that MPs in the Ukrainian Parliament have only the Ukrainian citizenship, because this is a matter of national security," Poroshenko stressed.

Explaining his legislative initiative to fight against dual citizenship in Ukraine, Poroshenko stressed that "the situation was brought to the point of absurdity, when a governor, MP or state official was boasting before the community about having two or three passports, being confident of own impunity."

According to Poroshenko, an MP or state official can’t be guided by the interests of any state other than Ukraine when making extremely important national decisions.
