International pressure on Russia must be increased – UCC statement
“International pressure on Russia must be increased in order to ensure that Russia end its invasion of Ukraine,” reads the statement.
To achieve this, the Ukrainian organization called on Canada together with allies to increase sanctions against the Russian Federation and provide Ukraine with needed weapons to defend its territory.
“The UCC calls on Canada to work with allies to significantly increase sanctions on the Russian Federation in response to Russia’s increasing aggression, including banning Russia from the SWIFT international payments system and provide Ukraine with the defensive equipment it needs to defend its territory, including anti-tank, anti-artillery and surveillance equipment,” reads the statement.
In addition, the UCC calls on Canada “to issue a strong condemnation of this serious escalation by the Russian Federation and demand that Russia abide by the ceasefire it has signed”.
