Steinmeier not rules out easing sanctions on Russia

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier does not rule out a phased easing of sanctions on Russia, despite ongoing fighting in Donbas.

He stated this in an interview with Passauer Neue Presse, published on July 29, DW reports.

"If we achieve considerable success, then, in my opinion, no one would object to a phased easing of sanctions," Steinmeier said.

The Minister also noted that Germany and France were negotiating with Ukraine and Russia to achieve the implementation of the Minsk agreements. It will be known later in September whether something works, the government official said.
