No compromise on elections in occupied Donbas - Kuchma
Ukrinform
Ex-president of Ukraine, representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group on settlement of the situation in Donbas Leonid Kuchma states that the Group has reached no compromise on the elections in the occupied territory of Donbas.
He said this to journalists in Kyiv, Radio Liberty reports.
"This is one of the main problems. We cannot reach any agreement ... The Minsk Agreements have no identified priorities and Russia uses this fact for speculations. It is written to hold the elections and then to withdraw the troops. But what elections may be held if the illegal armed groups are there?" Kuchma said.
He recalled that the Ukrainian side insisted on holding elections exclusively according to the Ukrainian legislation and the OSCE norms and standards.
As a reminder, the “DPR” and “LPR”, which control part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, wanted to hold their local elections in the autumn of this year, but postponed them until 2016.
