UN: more than 400,000 people suffer due to destroyed infrastructure in eastern Ukraine

KYIV, March 2 /Ukrinform/. More than 400,000 people in eastern Ukraine were left without electricity, heating, running water and access to food and water for more than one month.

The data are stated in the report prepared by the UN Mission for Human Rights covering the period from December 1, 2014 to February 15, 2015. The Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission In Ukraine Armen Harutyunyan told reporters on Monday in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"Civilian objects and infrastructure were severely damaged. More than 400,000 people were left without electricity, heating, running water and normal access to food and water in different locations for more than one month," he said.

Harutyunyan said that hospitals and schools were shelled in the zones controlled by both the Ukrainian government and illegal gunmen groups.

According to him, access to educational and healthcare services was also limited.
