President authorizes Herashchenko to resolve conflict in east Ukraine

KYIV, June 17 /Ukrinform/. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Iryna Herashchenko the president's commissioner for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the presidential press service has told Ukrinform.

"In order to promote social concord and create conditions for the implementation of a peace plan of the Ukrainian president on the settlement of the situation in east Ukraine I decree to appoint Iryna Volodymyrivna Herashchenko as commissioner of the Ukrainian president on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk regions (by consent)," reads the decree.

In particular, the main task of the commissioner will be to represent the position of the head of state on de-escalation of tension, achieve public concord, guarantee the safety of citizens and prevent attacks on the health and lives of civilians, cease encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and implement the president's peace plan to resolve the situation in the east.

According to the document, the commissioner will work on a voluntary basis.

The decree takes effect from the date of publication.
