Oleksandr Kharchenko appointed Ukrinform director

KYIV, March 19 /Ukrinform/. Oleksandr Kharchenko has been appointed Director of the National News Agency of Ukraine - Ukrinform, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Ostap Semerak has briefed the press on Wednesday.

"Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Kharchenko has been appointed Ukrinform director," Semerak said.

On the position Oleksandr Kharchenko replaced Oleksandr Detsyk.

In 1983 he graduated from Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv, Department of Journalism.

He began his journalistic career as a reporter for the Moloda Hvardia newspaper (“Young Guard”). From 1983 to 1990 he worked there as a correspondent, was head of department.

From 1990 to 1993 he acted as editor of department/executive secretary of the Ranok magazine (“Morning”); head of economic editorial office (1993-1996), deputy editor (1996-1997) of the Den newspaper (The Day), editor of the Mir Deneg magazine (World of Money, 1997), deputy editor of the Vseukrainskie vedomosti newspaper (All-Ukrainian news, 1997-1998).

In January 1999 he was appointed chief editor of the UNIAN news agency. On May 15, 2012 Kharchenko was dismissed.
