"I believe that the demand for the resignation of the president [Yanukovych - ed.] is a political mistake, because he may decide on forming a coalition government or signing the Association Agreement. Both sides should reduce their expectations and negotiate a way out of this stalemate," Sikorski said.
The Polish minister urged the parties to the conflict in Ukraine to refrain from using force and move to negotiations. There should be a Ukrainian solution to the Ukrainian political problem, or rather how to implement reforms to get assistance from the IMF, keep Ukraine from bankruptcy and associate Ukraine with the EU," Sikorski noted.
The diplomat also said he is in constant contact with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, who will soon come to Kyiv. "Ashton will try not to lose in Kyiv the ability to speak to the government, because it is necessary to remember that this is a democratically elected president," Sikorski emphasized.
