Yaroslav Romaniuk elected Supreme Court chairman
KYIV, May 17 /UKRINFORM/. Yaroslav Romaniuk was elected Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
This decision was announced at a plenary meeting of the Court on Friday.
Judges nominated two candidates for the post of chairman of the Supreme Court - Yaroslav Romaniuk, first deputy and acting chair of the Court, and Viktor Kryvenko, deputy chairman of the Court and secretary of the trial chamber for administrative affairs.
The head of the Supreme Court was elected by a majority vote of all participants in the plenary meeting via secret ballot. 28 judges voted for Romaniuk and 17 against him.
The plenary meeting was held behind closed doors.
Yaroslav Romaniuk was born January 26, 1961 in Hayi Ditkovetski, Brody district, Lviv region. He graduated from the Law Faculty of Lviv's Franko State University with the special subject Jurisprudence.
In 1995, he was elected judge of the Brody district court in Lviv region, and in 2003 judge of the court of appeals in Lviv region.
In July 2005, he was elected a judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, in December 2011 - first deputy chairman of the Supreme Court.
As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on April 18 relieved Supreme Court Chair Petro Pylypchuk of duties as a judge on the basis of his resignation statement due to reaching retirement age.
