President Poroshenko not to attend ESC grand final due to shelling of Avdiivka

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has cancelled his attendance at the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 due to civilian casualties in Donetsk region.

This has been posted on the President’s Facebook page.

“Eurovision Song Contest is a very important event for Ukraine. I and Maryna planned to attend the Contest’s final and invited the servicepersons and people with disabilities to cheer for Ukraine together. However, I have decided to cancel my attendance at the Eurovision’s grand final due to shelling of Avdiivka and civilian casualties,” the President wrote.

Earlier this evening, militants shelled the residential area of the town of Avdiivka in Donetsk region. Four local residents were killed as a result of the attack.

As reported, the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 has started at the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv at 22:00 today, on May 13.
