Court extends arrest of ex-leader of the Party of Regions faction

Starobilsky District Court of Luhansk region on February 28 ruled to extend a pre-trial detention term in the form of custody to the former leader of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction of the previous convocation, Oleksandr Yefremov, till April 28, 2017.

“To extend the pre-trial detention term for Oleksandr Serhiyovych Yefremov till April 28, 2017 inclusively,” according to the court’s ruling, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

As a reminder, Yefremov is accused of organizing the seizure of the Luhansk Regional State Administration’s building and of assisting in the takeover of Ukraine’s Security Service office in Luhansk region. Also, he faces charges of committing deliberate actions aimed at changing borders of the territory and the state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure, established by the Constitution, by the person, who is a government official, on preliminary deal with a group of persons that led to grave consequences. He is also accused of organization and assistance in establishing and activities of the terrorist organization "Luhansk People's Republic". In addition, Yefremov is suspected in state treason
