Swedish customs conduct inspection on board of sanctioned Russian vessel
The Sweden Herald stated this in an article, according to Ukrinform.
According to Martin Hoglund, spokesperson for Swedish Customs, the inspection team boarded the vessel shortly after 13:00 on Sunday in the presence of police.
He added that the customs inspection of the Adler will continue on Sunday, but at this time he cannot say anything about the contents of the cargo.
The Russian cargo ship Adler left a port outside St. Petersburg four days ago, anchored in Swedish waters due to engine problems.
The ship is owned by the company M Leasing LLC, which is on sanctions lists in the EU and the U.S. The reason is that the company's ships are said to have transported North Korean ammunition that Russia then used in the war in Ukraine.
Hoglund said he has no information about possible links between the vessel and Russia's military-industrial complex. "What we do know is that the ship and its owner are on several countries' sanctions lists because it was previously suspected of having transported war material," he said.
As Ukrinform reported, on December 18 the European Union imposed restrictive measures against 41 oil tankers belonging to Russia's shadow fleet.
