Two killed in apartment explosion in Kyiv – police
Kyiv police reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
"Police are establishing the circumstances of the explosion in an apartment in the Dniprovskyi district of the capital," the statement reads.
The report came in at around 15:30 on September 15.
Preliminary findings suggest that a grenade detonated inside the residence. As a result of the explosion, two people were killed and one was injured.
Later, Kyiv police clarified on Telegram that the detonation killed the 38-year-old apartment owner and his 46-year-old friend. Another man, a 48-year-old Kyiv resident, was hospitalized with injuries. His condition is currently stable.
Law enforcement officers continue to work at the scene and are establishing all the circumstances.
Investigators with the Dniprovskyi district police department have opened criminal proceedings under Part 2, Article 115, paragraph 1 (premeditated murder with the additional qualification of "accidental case") and Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of ammunition).
