Over hundred miners trapped 1,300m underground rescued in Ukraine
This was reported by the State Emergency Service, Ukrinform saw.
"A total of 135 miners were trapped more than 1,300 meters deep due to an accident at a mine substation in Dnipropetrovsk region. Thanks to the joint work of rescuers, enterprise staff, and other units of the State Emergency Service, the accident was eliminated," the report says.
It is noted that the rescue effort required the use of a complex technology for creating an artificial load on the mine cage, which allowed workers to be safely lifted back to the surface.
"The rescue operation has been completed. All 135 miners have returned home safe and sound," the State Emergency Service stressed.
As Ukrinform reported, in July last year, 280 miners found themselves trapped underground due to a power outage at a mine in Donetsk region. All workers were eventually rescued uninjured.
