WHAT: Release of statements on preliminary observation findings on Ukraine’s July 21, 2019 early parliamentary election.

PRESS CONFERENCE: The National Democratic Institute and International Republican Institute international election observation missions will be releasing preliminary observation findings in back-to-back press conferences.

SCHEDULE: 16:00 -- NDI press conference starts followed by the IRI press conference

BACKGROUND

National Democratic Institute:

John Bruton, former prime minister of Ireland and ambassador of the EU to the United States; Christie Todd Whitman, former governor of New Jersey; Audrey Glover, chairman of the Foreign Policy Centre and former director of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR); and Laura Jewett, NDI regional director for Eurasia will speak on behalf of NDI’s election observation mission. NDI’s 34-member delegation includes political leaders, diplomats, former elected and government officials, and regional and electoral experts from 10 countries. The delegation’s preliminary election statement builds on the work of NDI’s missions to the first and second rounds of 2019 presidential election in Ukraine, the findings of long-term analysts who have been in Ukraine since June 2019.

International Republican Institute:

Judy Van Rest, IRI Executive Vice President, and Stephen Nix, IRI Eurasia Regional Director, will speak on behalf of IRI’s international election observation mission. The 35 short-term observers include political experts, thought leaders, journalists, and public officials. The delegation will review its findings from Election Day. The delegation’s preliminary election statement builds on the work of IRI’s missions to the first and second rounds of 2019 presidential election in Ukraine.
