Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov stated that the first round of presidential elections in Ukraine was conducted democratically, without gross violations.

“Thanks to Ukrainians, the first round of the presidential election was held democratically. This election was surprisingly calm and well-organized. This is a big plus for us," Avakov said during the Svonoda Slova talk show on ICTV channel on Monday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

At the same time, he informed that 2,662 reports on election violations [starting from March 31] were recorded throughout the country. These were mostly minor violations like illegal campaigning and taking pictures of ballots. A total of 66 proceedings have been opened.

He also said that almost 600,000 Ukrainians worked at the polling stations during the presidential election.

“Almost 600,000 Ukrainians worked at the polling stations. This is an unprecedented figure. Also, 135,000 police officers, rescuers, National Guard officers and border guards served these elections. It’s a huge work. Everyone worked very well and I want to thank everyone who made a contribution,” Avakov said.
