The ambassadors of the G7 countries have welcomed the preliminary findings of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) on the holding of the first round of presidential elections in Ukraine.
They also called on presidential candidates to abide by the law during the preparation and holding of the second round of elections.
"G7 Ambassadors welcome the OSCE/ODIHR preliminary conclusions and note that the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine on 31 March 2019 was competitive and held in a generally peaceful and secure atmosphere. Election day was assessed positively overall and paves the way to the second round," the ambassadors said in a statement.
Earlier, OSCE Special Coordinator Ilkka Kanerva assessed the elections in Ukraine, noting that the first round was competitive and free.
