IAEA finds no evidence of damage or impact on nuclear facilities in Iran
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said this in a statement, Ukrinform reports.
“Regarding the status of the nuclear installations in Iran, up to now, we have no indication that any of the nuclear installations, including the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Tehran Research Reactor, or other nuclear fuel cycle facilities have been damaged or hit,” the statement reads.
Grossi added that attempts to contact the Iranian nuclear regulatory authorities are ongoing, but no response has been received to date. He said he hopes that “the indispensable channel of communication can be reestablished as soon as possible.”
He also emphasized that no increase in radiation levels above the normal background level has been detected in countries bordering Iran.
Against the backdrop of active conflict in the region, Grossi called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation.
Earlier on Monday, Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations Reza Najafi, who is responsible for nuclear control, said that a large nuclear facility located in the city of Natanz had been attacked by the US and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Reuters reports.
"Again they attacked Iran's peaceful, safeguarded nuclear facilities yesterday," Reza Najafi told reporters at a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors. When asked by Reuters which facilities had been attacked, he replied: “Natanz.”
As reported by Ukrinform, on February 28, the US and Israel launched joint strikes on regime facilities in Iran.
