Reconstruction of Ukraine: Japan allocates 6.2B yen for urgent needs

According to Ukrinform, this was announced by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

It is noted that Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery of Ukraine - Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba and Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome signed an agreement (in the form of an exchange of notes) on the provision of grant assistance for the implementation of the fifth phase of the Emergency Recovery Program.

“The Japanese government is allocating 6.2 billion Japanese yen (approximately USD 41 million) for Ukraine's immediate reconstruction needs. This phase of funding is aimed at strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure and supporting socially important sectors,” the statement said.

The funds will be distributed through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in four priority areas: municipal infrastructure, healthcare, agricultural sector support, and public broadcasting support.

“This agreement paves the way for the finalization of a grant agreement with JICA, which will clearly detail projects and purchases. The agreement covers support not only for critical infrastructure, but also for medicine and the media sphere — sectors that are the foundation of our state's stability,” Kuleba said.

As reported, during the previous phases of the Emergency Recovery Program, starting in 2023, Japan allocated 100 billion yen, thanks to which Ukrainian communities, state institutions, and agencies received, special equipment for clearing debris, generators, modular bridges, rails for restoring railway infrastructure, as well as equipment for water utilities, medical equipment for regional hospitals, and support for the agricultural sector.
