Government simplifies import of lithium-ion batteries

This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, according to Ukrinform.

It is noted that this decision will allow for faster import of electricity storage equipment into Ukraine and ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure and businesses.

“Our task is to ensure that hospitals, communications, and important facilities can continue to operate even during power outages. Simplifying the import of batteries will help to deploy energy storage systems more quickly and strengthen the country's energy security,” said Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Vitalii Kindrativ.

According to the Ukrainian Solar Energy Association, mandatory licensing of such batteries previously complicated their supply and reduced the ability of businesses, hospitals, and households to provide themselves with electricity during outages.

The Ministry of Economy reminded that in 2026, one of the state's priorities is the development of distributed generation and energy storage systems. This is necessary to reduce the impact of attacks on the power system and increase its resilience.

As reported by Ukrinform, the government has launched the SvitloDim program to finance the installation of autonomous power supplies in multi-story buildings. The amount of state aid will range from UAH 100,000 to 300,000, depending on the number of floors in the building and the number of entrances. The funds can be used to purchase gasoline, diesel, or gas generators; inverters; high-voltage battery control units; batteries; and solar panels.
