Relentless Russian attacks prevent stabilization of Ukraine’s power grid – Shmyhal

Ongoing Russian attacks are preventing the stabilization of Ukraine’s power supply, as the energy system does not have enough time to recover.

This was reported on Telegram by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, according to Ukrinform.

“Overnight, Ukraine endured another massive Russian attack. The enemy targeted energy facilities, heat supply systems, and other civilian infrastructure in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv regions and other areas,” Shmyhal said.

He noted that he had received reports from energy companies and other services on efforts to eliminate the consequences of Russia’s attacks and the pace of restoration work.

“Regarding the power supply situation: unfortunately, constant enemy attacks do not allow the situation to be stabilized. The energy system does not have time to recover. Due to emergency outages, more than 800,000 consumers in the capital are without electricity. The power deficit remains. We are working with our partners to reduce it,” Shmyhal emphasized.

Over the past few days, more than 143 tons of humanitarian aid have been distributed from one of the Energy Ministry’s hubs, primarily generators, transformers, cables, and pumps.

“This equipment is critically important for stabilizing the operation of enterprises. The aid has been delivered to energy workers in Kyiv and the region, as well as in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions and other areas. We plan to transfer some of the generators provided by international partners to State Emergency Service heating centers to ensure electricity supply during outages. We are also expecting additional equipment from Slovakia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Italy, Latvia, and Poland,” Shmyhal reported.

He added that amid the emergency situation in the energy sector, support for vulnerable population groups is also being intensified.

As Ukrinform previously reported, as a result of a Russian attack overnight on January 24, more than 800,000 consumers in Kyiv were left without electricity, while disruptions to water supply were also recorded on the left bank and in parts of the right bank of the city.
