Ukraine and Italy have prospects for expanding cooperation in the defense and food industries and green metallurgy.

This was stated by First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko during the preparatory event "On the Road to URC2025", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Italy has provided substantial funding and support, particularly for the energy system. We are now entering a new phase of cooperation between our countries. We are facing the biggest challenge yet – Ukraine’s recovery. This presents a substantial opportunity for Italian businesses,” the Minister said.

She emphasized that Ukraine is implementing a number of reforms to improve its business climate and accelerate its accession to the European Union. In addition, Ukraine and Italy already have examples of successful business cooperation.

“We are convinced that it is necessary to expand insurance and financing mechanisms for Italian businesses in Ukraine. We are interested in expanding our defense industry and would like to cooperate with Italian companies on the localization of weapons production and the supply of high-tech equipment,” Svyrydenko said.

She also identified food production and green metallurgy as promising areas of cooperation.

“I would like to invite representatives of private Italian companies to work in Ukraine,” Svyrydenko added.

As reported, in February, Metinvest Group (Ukraine) and Danieli (Italy) signed an agreement to start construction of a steel plant in the Italian city of Piombino.

The Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) will take place in Rome on July 10 and 11, 2025.
