With its missile and air strikes on Odesa and other cities and regions of Ukraine, Russia purposefully seeks to deprive the Ukrainian economy of its main source of income, and unconditionally destroys peaceful residences and historical heritage.

The spokesman of the U.S. State Department, Matthew Miller, stated this emphasizing that the West's support for Ukraine will remain unwavering, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.

Missile attacks and drone strikes, which began last week after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, led to the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians, the destruction of UNESCO heritage sites, including the historic Cathedral in Odesa, the destruction of port infrastructure and grain stocks, which could affect hundreds of thousands of people around the world, the State Department representative noted.

He said that Russia has also attacked grain warehouses on the Danube River, a vital export route for grain, after the Kremlin blocked Black Sea ports.

These malicious strikes once again illustrate Russia's readiness to use food as a weapon in its illegal war against Ukraine, the representative of the State Department emphasized.

He stressed that the Kremlin thus wants to deprive the economy of Ukraine of its main source of income and neglects the food needs of people all over the world.

The United States, allies, and partners will maintain unwavering support for Ukraine as it defends itself and fights for the return of its sovereign territory. The U.S. will continue to support Ukrainians working on recovery and reconstruction, Miller stated.

However, according to him, the Kremlin continues to destroy Ukraine.

Until Russia withdraws its troops and demonstrates that it is interested in peace, it is our shared responsibility to demand that the Kremlin cease attacks on Ukraine and its people, help Ukraine defend its territory and protect its own people, and hold Russia accountable for the suffering it has chosen to inflict on so many people, a U.S. State Department official noted.

As Ukrinform reported, on Monday, July 24, the European Union condemned Russia's shelling of Ukraine's port infrastructure.
