The International Monetary Fund considers it very important in the global context to continue the Black Sea Frain Initiative, which the Russian Federation is trying to disrupt, weaponizing food supplies.

Director of the IMF's Communications Department, Julia Kozak, made the corresponding statement on Thursday during a briefing in Washington, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.

"So from our perspective, it is very important that all measures that can be taken are taken to help reduce food insecurity and to really help the most vulnerable members of our global community to overcome this very difficult challenge," the Fund’s spokeswoman noted in response to questions about the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

In this regard, she emphasized that now many countries around the world are facing problems related to food security.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, negotiations on the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative kicked off in Istanbul on Wednesday at the level of deputy defense ministers of Türkiye, Ukraine, and Russia, as well as official representatives of the UN. However, on Thursday, after the conclusion of the two-day meeting, it became clear that the parties could not reach a common ground. The negotiators agreed to continue efforts at the technical level in a quadrilateral format, for which Türkiye provides the platform.
