Cash in circulation in banks grows 22.6% in Q1 - NBU

In January-March 2023, compared to the same period last year, the amount of cash in Ukrainian banks increased by 22.6%; cash withdrawals – by 3.7%.

The press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

In the first quarter of 2023, the amount of cash in banks reached UAH 601.2 billion, which is 22.6% more compared to the same period last year.

The amount of cash withdrawals from banks over the reporting period came to UAH 565.2 billion, which is 3.7% more than in the first quarter of 2022.

The three largest cash withdrawal operations were payment card transactions - 84.3%, postal operators’ support transactions - 4.1%, the purchase of foreign currency from customers - 4.0%.

As reported, cash in circulation in Ukraine totaled UAH 676.1 billion as of April 1, 2023.
