Ukraine can help the European Union ease energy crisis this winter with its electricity exports, which is why Russia is trying to seize the Zaporizhzhia NPP and impede them.

“Ukraine can help the EU ease energy crisis this winter with its electricity exports. This is why Russia tries to hijack the Zaporizhzhia NPP and impede them. Ukraine and the EU are in the same boat: we must remain united and defeat Putin before he brings us all even more trouble,” Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, posted on Twitter.

As reported, on September 3, the International Atomic Energy Agency stated that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the main power transmission line. It was noted that the ZNPP continued to work through a backup line.

On September 5, Ukraine's National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom said that the last, sixth, power unit that supplied Zaporizhzhia NPP's own needs had been unloaded and disconnected from the network because of the fire that had broken out due to Russian shelling.

The ZNPP, Europe's largest nuclear power plant, has been captured by the Russian military since March 4. The invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition at the plant, shelling the surrounding area.

The United Nations, the United States, and Ukraine called on Russia to withdraw its military equipment and personnel from the nuclear facility.
