Davos: Ukraine suggests creating international organization of exporters to avoid famine

Ukraine suggests creating an international organization of responsible food exporters to avoid famine in many countries.

"The famine must be stopped preventively when it has not yet begun. There is no such tool in the world now. Therefore, we suggest creating an organization of responsible and democratic states, food exporters, that can act with respect for human rights and global trade rules," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said, while delivering a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, Ukraine’s motivation for such an initiative is very simple: humanity must have insurance against hunger despite any turning points in history. "And Ukraine is ready to provide a platform for such a new organization which is definitely needed," Zelensky stressed.

As reported, the Russian Federation has already stolen about 400,000 tonnes of grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, which could lead to famine.

Russia steals grain in the territory of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions. In addition, Russian troops launch missile strikes to destroy elevators, warehouses, agricultural machinery and infrastructure in other regions throughout Ukraine to disrupt the sowing campaign.

In total, Ukraine is unable to export 90 million tonnes of grain due to Russia's blockade and loses $170 million every day.
